Abstract

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Maqri is a prominent Nigerian poet who was born in the city of Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. His poems demonstrate a varied and skillful use of Arabic derivatives, such as active participles, passive participles, intensive forms, and adjectival forms resembling participles. These derivatives contribute significant linguistic and expressive depth to his poetry, reflecting his mastery of the Arabic language and his artistic ability to employ it effectively. This study aims to investigate and trace these derivatives in selected poems of Sheikh Ahmad Al Maqri and to analyze them from a grammatical perspective. The researchers adopted the descriptive-analytical method in conducting the study. The findings revealed that the poet employed these derivatives extensively in many of the verses examined in this research. The researchers further recommend conducting additional studies on the poet and his literary productions, both in poetry and prose. Suggested topics include alliteration in some poems of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Maqri Sa’id, as well as a study of the genitive constructions in the poem “Preaching and Guidance” by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Maqri Sa’id.
