Abstract

This paper highlights the pivotal role played by Rangers International Football Club of Enugu in the development of sports in Nigeria. It argues that Enugu Rangers, formed in the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970, has played—and continues to play—a significant role in advancing sports in the country. The study adopts the historical method and draws on both primary and secondary sources. It concludes that football clubs in particular, and sports organizations in general, have a crucial role to play in Nigeria’s national development and should emulate the achievements of Rangers in this regard.
