A LEGAL ANALYSIS OF THE CHALLENGES OF CRIMINAL PROSECUTION IN NIGERIA

Abstract

The Nigerian criminal justice system has numerous obstacles that hinder efficacious prosecution of criminal acts. From systemic issues to practical impediments, understanding these challenges is crucial for advancing the rule of law and ensuring justice in the Nigeria. This paper aims to consider the obstacles faced in criminal prosecution within Nigeria's justice system. It also identifies systemic deficiencies, assesses the impact of corruption on the justice system, and proposes targeted reforms to enhance the efficacy of criminal prosecution in Nigeria. The primary contention is that the challenges in criminal prosecution are deeply rooted in systemic inefficiencies, including inadequate resources, procedural bottlenecks, and the influence of corruption. By addressing these issues, the legal system can better serve its purpose of delivering fair and timely justice.
