CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED BY FASHION DESIGNERS IN OKO METROPOLIS WITH REGARDS TO INDIGENOUS FABRICS
Abstract
The paper examined some challenges encountered by fashion designers in Oko metropolis with regards to indigenous fabrics. The study objectives were to determine the types of indigenous fabrics, challenges encountered by the fashion designers, and the capacities of Indigenous fabrics in Nigeria. Among others, the problems associated with this paper were that of high cost of production, limited technological advancement, quality control issues, sourcing and availability of indigenous fabrics among other. The study adopted the interview method. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher is of the view that the government, ministries, and agencies such as police, customs, immigration, and the army should stop the use of imported fabrics for designing their uniforms, locally Akwete, Aso-oke, and okene materials should be used instead.
