Abstract

This is a study that projects Igbo sculpture by taking the exposition of African art down to the eastern part of Nigeria. Its focus is mainly on the traditionally produced works of Igbo art. It does not overlook the essence, functions, and sociocultural harmony involved in the practice. The study has concentricity to Igbo cultural continuity and adaptations since there is a continuous global revolution. It has been a problem having inadequate and insufficient historical accounts that feature Igbo sculpture up to this time. Its significance includes updating the history of African sculpture narrowed down to Igbo. The methodology used in this study is a desk report, where the findings include that Igbo sculpture practices adapt as time, purposes, and functions change. Indeed, Igbo sculpture practice is moving in tandem with global changes.
