BODY ADORNMENT: A RE-INTERPRETATION OF THE ART OF BODY PAINTINGS AND OTHER ADORNMENTS
Abstract
The underlying discussion is based on studies analyzing the significance of body decoration. Since body ornamentation has been a significant human practice traced back to the prehistoric age, this article focuses on the increasing trend in human body adornment and how it links to modern art forms. The practices of body ornamentation in Nigeria are a reflection of the country's rich cultural heritage and its many ethnic groups. These ornaments act as potent vehicles for cultural expression, social identification, and aesthetic inventiveness, ranging from body painting and jewellery to scarification patterns. The purpose of this essay is to describe the different types, meanings, and advantages of body decoration. This essay aims to determine how our civilisations view the aesthetic category of body decoration. This essay also examines the many art symbols employed for scarification and aesthetic purposes on the human body. This study also examines several original modern symbols utilised in Nigeria. The conclusion is drawn after noting the significance of the symbols and the man.
