The Bane of "Copy and Paste" in Health Research: An Ethical and Intellectual Crisis

Abstract

The integrity of health research, like all scientific research, is the bedrock upon which public trust and patient safety are built. Yet, this foundation is being eroded by a pervasive and persistent form of misconduct termed plagiarism. While the term itself is Latin, derived from "plagiare" (to abduct), the sin of intellectual theft is universally condemned. Its history in Western academia is long, noted as far back as 1896 by Halsted. However, the prohibition is even more profound, rooted in timeless principles that define intellectual and moral conduct.
